By using a weird software I found on line, probably developed for low-grade bureaucrats and scammers, I discovered that if you were born on May 30, 1972, today is your 18262nd day of life. It would have been nicer if the numbers were more round like 17500 or 18000 or something, but you can’t always get what you want. I’m happy to have reached the other round number (50 years) and I don't complain too much. I happily thank the fate that brought me this far.
With the purpose of broadening my horizons, the present I gave myself is an EP of folk classics that I arranged and played by myself. Not only folk numbers, but the songs were revisited in a mood that critics would call "roots" or Americana".
I don't particularly love to sing, but my assumption is that if JJ Cale and Leonard Cohen (two absolute myths) did it, anyone can do it, you just need something to say. I have several things to say, but I will not dwell on it here. Partly because I have already cursed for a long time while recording the songs, partly because I have pity for the readers, and last but not least as you may know I prefer to play than to write.
If you are among those who will read these words you are either a) a relative b) a friend c) a music student that I am torturing or d) someone significant who taught me something at some point in the last 18262 days, either explicitly or by witnessing it (or perhaps some combination of these).

I promise that for the 36524th day I will only eat the cake, and if you will still be hanging around with me probably we will be watching "The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared” (and maybe we could escape together).

Utilizzando un simpatico programma per notai e truffatorelli di bassa lega (tipo contratti capestro et simili), ho scoperto che se sei nato il 30 maggio del 1972 oggi è il tuo 18262esimo giorno di vita. Sarebbe figo che il conto venisse tipo 17500 o 18mila tondo, ma tanté, bisogna accontentarsi.
Felice di essere arrivato oggi all’altro numero tondo (50 anni) non mi lamento più di tanto e ringrazio il destino che mi ha portato fino a qui. Volendo ampliare i miei orizzonti mi sono auto regalato un ep di classici folk (e non solo, ma rivisti in quel mood che i critici chiamerebbero “roots” o americana”) che mi sono arrangiato e suonato da me nelle ultime settimane (a parte la bonus track). Non adoro particolarmente cantare, ma parto sempre dal presupposto che se lo fanno JJ Cale e Leonard Cohen (due miti assoluti) lo può fare chiunque, basta avere delle cose da dire.
Ne avrei parecchie, ma non mi dilungo. Un po’ perché ho già lungamente bestemmiato per registrare i brani, un po’ per pietà di chi legge, un po’ perché preferisco suonare che scrivere.
Se siete tra chi legge queste parole siete a) un parente b) un amico/a c) uno/a studente/ssa di musica che sto martoriando d) qualcuno di significativo che mi ha insegnato qualcosa a un certo punto degli ultimi 18262 giorni, esplicitamente o testimoniandolo.
